Please, take a look at this incredible Mexican vintage pottery on the Pocas Cosas website. This is a charger from Tlaquepaque, c. 1920-30. The scene shows a Mexican woman riding a burro through a wonderful contryside, followed by a man in a large sombrero and with a walking staff. This scene is very likely a Mexican potter’s vision of the Journey to Bethlehem where Jesus will be born on Christmas Day.

Pocas Cosas in New Mexico, August, 2011

Estela took Pocas Cosas to New Mexico in August, 2011. On August 5-7, we were at the Great Southwest Antiques Show at the Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. On August 11-13, we were at the Whitehawk Ethnographic Antiques Show at the Convention Center in Santa Fe. The shows were great!!

While the shows were truly great, the trip through Arizona in August was a bit hot and tough!! The famous Pocas Cosas doggies and kitties were the worst for wear, as the saying goes.

As we discovered on the way to New Mexico, the air conditioning system on the 1988 VW camper was simply not up to the task! Estela put cool towels on the animals’ heads on the trip home. Temperatures topped 112 degrees! Why didn’t she put a cool towel on Stephen’s head as he drove through a very hot desert??

Things were certainly much better while in Santa Fe, where we enjoyed staying in the beautiful countryside at the Casita of our good friends, Ignacio and Carroline Villarreal!!

Little Chispa was perhaps in the best shape of all of us, during the drive home in the VW camper.

Here is a photo of Fr. Peter J. Klink, S.J., who has spent much of his active ministry at Red Cloud Indian School, Pine Ridge, South Dakota, working with Lakota or Sioux families and youth. Fr. Peter accompanied Pocas Cosas on a trip to Oaxaca and Chiapas for Day of the Dead, 2010.
